A warmer week lies ahead

After morning lows in the mid- to upper 20s again this Monday morning, temperatures will begin to rebound. Although the sky may have more clouds than sun at times today, local thermometers will bump up into the mid-50s this afternoon. A high pressure center is shifting off the East Coast, and the clockwise flow around it will usher warmer air into Mecklenburg County via southerly winds.

Tonight's temperature readings will only drop to near 40º given the warmer regime. Although there's a hint of yet another cold air damming wedge developing, tomorrow looks to feature afternoon highs in the low 60s even under mostly cloudy skies. If that wedge fails to materialize (the odds are against it) southwesterly winds will continue to push in warm air, gusting over 15 mph at times Tuesday.

Overall this week looks to be much warmer than average locally as indicated on this graphic:

Thus, the 60s will stick around for afternoon highs, with maybe even a run at 70º later this week. January thaw, anyone?
