Spring-like warmth for midweek

The warmth continues for Mecklenburg County through the midweek period. After Tuesday's high in the low and mid-60s today - Wednesday - will feature temperatures topping out in the upper 60s. This, despite the passage of a weak cold front this afternoon which will swap winds around out of the west. Those breezes could gust up to 20 mph for a brief period.

That cold front will dissipate as it reaches the coast, leaving behind a mild - albeit slightly cooler - air mass. By dawn Thursday local thermometers will register lows in the upper 30s, followed by afternoon highs climbing back into the low 60s under mostly sunny skies. Winds will be light and variable as high pressure settles across Virginia's Piedmont.

Tomorrow night clouds will be on the increase ahead of the next storm system approaching from the west. Friday looks to be cloudy but even warmer thanks to southerly winds. Rain showers will arrive late Friday night, lasting through Saturday into early Sunday.

Unfortunately that low pressure system will track far enough west of Mecklenburg County that local rain amounts look to be sparse. That won't alleviate the drought conditions illustrated on last week's Drought Monitor:
Friday's blog post will take a closer look at the weekend conditions.
