Thanksgiving week starts out feeling like autumn but then...

Today, the last Sunday before Thanksgiving, thick morning fog is the primary weather story as shown on this snapshot from a Clarksville webcam image

Where's the lake?!

Overnight the air temperatures dropped to match the dew points amid calm winds at most Mecklenburg County stations. That meant 100% relative humidity at the surface and voila! Fog formed. As the air warms and mixes with the drier air just above the surface layer the fog will dissipate (it doesn't "burn off"), leaving behind sunny skies and afternoon highs in the mid-60s.

A weak cold front will push through the county after dinner this evening, opening the door for slightly cooler and drier air to enter the area. The work week will begin sunny and a bit cooler Monday. Then by Tuesday another storm system will approach from the west, with clouds and showers arriving during the afternoon hours. Wednesday, a busy travel day, looks to be mostly cloudy with light rain through the lunch hour as that system and its associated cold front pushes through.

Then on Thanksgiving Day a secondary cold front behind that storm system will reintroduce Arctic air to the region. Daily high temperatures will struggle to climb above the 50º mark into the weekend, likely accompanied by brisk northwesterly winds during those family get-togethers. However, this particular cold spell will ease by Sunday, with warmer conditions greeting travelers heading back home.
