Clear skies, light winds, and dry air combined to allow Monday morning temperatures to bottom out in the 30s around Mecklenburg County. Unlike the thick fog which blanketed the area Sunday morning the only evidence of fog to start the work week was over the warmer waters of Buggs Island Lake / Kerr Reservoir. Given the chilly air atop water temperatures in the mid-50s steam fog was the result:
Skies will remain sunny the rest of Monday and local thermometers will climb into the low 60s this afternoon. Tuesday morning temperatures won't drop as low as this morning's readings, settling into the low 40s by dawn. Then tomorrow a storm system crossing the southern states will begin its journey across the Appalachians.
Increasing moisture and clouds will move in ahead of that system, with showers breaking out locally during the afternoon hours tomorrow. Tuesday night could even bring a rumble of thunder as a cold front approaches. The heaviest rain looks to occur during the wee hours Wednesday morning, but overall liquid totals will only be in the quarter- to half-inch range by the time precipitation tapers off Wednesday afternoon.
Wednesday's blog post will take a closer look at the Thanksgiving weekend forecast.
