Sunshine, dry conditions, and a switch back to Standard Time this weekend

A complex of twin low pressure systems and their associated fronts finally pushed north of Mecklenburg County before 10:00 a.m. Thursday morning. Behind it drier air rolled in, bringing sunshine with it. In the aftermath today - Friday - will thus be sunny and a bit warmer with afternoon highs in the low 60s. Winds will gust over 20 mph at times today.

By sunset at 6:18 p.m. this evening the gustiness will calm and temperatures will be in the mid-50s. That's decent trick-or-treating weather, so costumes won't have to be swallowed up by jackets or rain gear. By dawn Saturday temperatures will have dropped into the upper 30s, with patchy frost in the cooler locales.

Both Saturday and Sunday will have afternoon highs in the low to mid-60s, with the latter day featuring a few more clouds thanks to an upper level low pressure center passing south of the region. Winds will be light both days.

And remember to "fall back" an hour to Eastern Standard Time, which officially happens at 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning. One way to ensure that happens is shown here (😆):

Sunrise and sunset Saturday will occur at 7:38 a.m. and 6:17 p.m. respectively for the last full day of Daylight Saving time. Then the sun will rise Sunday at 6:39 a.m. before setting at 5:16 p.m. The mornings will be lighter, but dinner time will be darker.

Happy Friday!
