The chill, gloom, and wetness of the past couple of days did bring some needed rain across Mecklenburg County. Since Monday evening local gauges recorded over an inch of liquid at Clarksville and Boydton, with 0.80" collected at South Hill. That will help ease - but not eliminate - the drought situation.
Meanwhile today (Wednesday) the clouds will hang tough as the area is in the grip of a cold air damming wedge. Temperatures will only creep up to the mid-50s today, with showers returning this afternoon. Then this evening and overnight a dynamic duo of low pressure centers will approach from the southwest, bringing another half-inch or more of rainfall to the county. Folks may even hear a rumble of thunder late tonight.
By dawn Thursday that combination of red "L's" will have lifted north of the area:
Skies will begin clearing late tomorrow morning as winds gust up to 20 mph while that system slowly pulls away. Local thermometers will rise from Thursday morning lows in the 50s to afternoon highs in the mid-60s.
