Improving conditions today and clear skies Thursday

Rain! The low pressure system mentioned in Monday's blogpost so far has deposited 0.19", 0.40", 0.71", and 0.37" into respective gauges in Clarksville, Chase City, Boydton, and South Hill. Meanwhile, the Tidewater region has been inundated with several inches of precipitation from this storm. As this post is being penned the center of circulation (blue circle) is located east of Richmond per this map of current surface conditions:

As showers continue this Wednesday morning another tenth to a quarter-inch of rain can be expected today before this storm weakens and moves away. There may actually be a few breaks in the overcast by sunset for western sections of Mecklenburg County. Temperatures will top out in the mid-60s this afternoon.

Thursday will dawn under completely different conditions. The storm will have scooted up the East Coast toward the Long Island area, and skies will be clear for a nearly 7:00 a.m. sunrise. A light northwest wind will stir the air, and local thermometers look to top out near the 80ยบ mark tomorrow afternoon. Given the remnant low level moisture it'll even feel a bit sticky outdoors.

The weekend weather then looks dry, although it now appears that a cold air damming wedge will be in place. That may mean more clouds than sun late Saturday into Sunday. Friday's post will take a closer look at that forecast.
