A pleasant weekend of weather upcoming

Today - Friday - could wind up being one of the warmest days this September. After morning lows ranging from 59º in Clarksville to 61º in both Boydton and South Hill, local thermometers will climb into the upper 80s this afternoon. Winds will remain very light under sunny skies.

There is a modicum of disagreement in the numerical weather models as to how much and when a backdoor cold front will affect the weekend weather. There is also some thought of another coastal low pressure developing overnight Saturday, which may affect Sunday's weather. Even so, the current forecast for Saturday and Sunday looks dry with seasonable temperatures. Temperatures will top out in the mid-80s tomorrow and at or just below the 80º mark on Sunday, with more clouds around the latter day.

Meanwhile, rainfall will to be scarce until at least the last half of next week. The continued dryness is becoming more of a concern, emphasized by this week's Drought Monitor:

This time of year relief from extended dry stretches is usually attributed to tropical systems coming ashore. At the moment that doesn't look likely as the Atlantic and Gulf both look quiet.
