Given that late August averages for high temperatures in Mecklenburg County are still in the upper 80s, this week will feature a cooler-than-average regime. An upper level trough pushed a surface cold front across the county during the pre-dawn hours this Monday morning, opening the weather door to cooler and drier air.
This diagram shows where the "continental polar" air mass responsible for these conditions came from:
Temperatures today will rise from this morning's upper 60s into the low 80s for afternoon highs under sunny skies. A light northerly breeze will gently stir the air, and dew points will fall from the upper 60s into the 50s by the time the sun sets at 7:51 p.m. in Clarksville.
Under clear skies and with light winds local thermometers will drop into the upper 50s tonight around the county. That may entice folks into opening the windows for some good sleeping weather tonight! Tuesday afternoon temperatures will struggle to reach the 80ยบ mark as that "continental polar" air seeps into the area. Conditions for the remainder of the week look very similar to tomorrow's forecast.
