This Monday morning a "cold" front is draped west-to-east across Virginia:
An upper level trough is crossing New England today, and its southern edge is nudging this surface boundary southward.
The front will sag through Mecklenburg County today, remaining close enough to help trigger some afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures will top out near the 90º mark this afternoon while the heat index climbs back into the mid-90s. Overnight, drier air will slowly ooze in behind this boundary. Thus dew points will slowly drop from today's low 70s (miserably sticky) into the upper 60s (less atrocious) on Tuesday.
Temperatures will begin Tuesday near 70º, only rising into the mid-80s for afternoon highs. That's actually several degrees below local averages for late July. Coupled with the lower humidity and a northeasterly breeze the outdoors tomorrow will feel delightful compared to recent days. Wednesday's weather looks similar with only slightly higher afternoon temperatures.
