Drier and a bit cooler air has finally arrived and high pressure has overspread Virginia. The result? This Wednesday morning's temperatures began below the 70º mark for the first time in what seems likes months! Chase City won the lowest thermometer reading prize at 66º.
Today will be a relatively pleasant day by July standards. Under sunny skies and with a light easterly breeze this afternoon's highs will top out in the upper 80s. By sunset - which will be at 8:27 p.m. - local thermometer readings will drop below 80, heading toward another sub-70º morning low on Thursday.
Thursday's weather also looks pretty reasonable, albeit with afternoon highs a couple degrees warmer than today's. But as that high pressure moves off the coast the door will open for heat and humidity to move back in for the weekend. The "hot and stickies" will then be on the weather menu again for several days starting Friday.
Meanwhile the Atlantic basin tropical outlook remains fairly quiet as shown in this seven day forecast graphic from the National Hurricane Center:
The peak of the Atlantic hurricane season is still almost two months away, but it's wise to keep an eye on these forecasts.
