This Friday morning Boydton won the low temperature prize with a reading of 16º at a local weather station. The rest of Mecklenburg county was pretty chilly as well, but that will slowly change over the next few days. Meanwhile today will end up with afternoon highs in the low 40s under sunny skies, accompanied by a northwesterly breeze.
For those wondering about total snow amounts from this week's storm here's the NWS Wakefield summary graphic:
Per the forecast areas east of I-85 received the most snow, with Tidewater experiencing the deepest snow accumulation in Virginia. The beach areas saw as much as a foot of white stuff! The weekend looks to begin a warming trend as the recent Arctic air invasions are loosening their grip. Saturday will still be cooler than average, with temperatures ranging from the teens in the morning to the mid-40s during the afternoon. However, south winds will kick in tomorrow, resulting in milder temperatures on Sunday. The latter weekend day will feature afternoon highs in the low 50s, just about average for late February.
Next week will bring a return to the 60s. Does that mean winter's chill is finished? Probably not, but it's definitely not long before spring!!
