Warm weather pattern for the work week

Mecklenburg county's average daily high temperature at this point in the winter is in the mid-50s. Folks who are tired of both shivering and paying elevated heating bills will welcome the news that the work week ahead looks to bring above average warmth to the region. Even today - Sunday - will approach that level of mildness with afternoon highs in the low 50s under sunny skies.

High pressure is in firm control of the weather and will stay that way through most of the upcoming week. Dry conditions and sunny skies will be the rule, with the sole exception being Thursday. That day a cold front will plow across the county bringing plain old rain with it. Daily highs will climb into the mid- and upper 60s(!) through Thursday.

The somewhat cooler air behind that boundary will be just that: cooler, not Arctic level frigid. Thus Friday will feature highs near those average mid-50s mentioned above. Meanwhile, the recent extended period of precipitation (liquid and solid) has actually put a dent in the local long term dry conditions. Here's the most recent Drought Monitor showing only the southern half of Mecklenburg county still under the Abnormally Dry designation:

Note: with quiet weather expected in the near term the next blogpost will arrive Wednesday. Enjoy the warmth!
