Today - Sunday - began with temperatures in the mid- to upper 30s around Mecklenburg county. With similar dew point readings plus a supply of surface moisture from Buggs Island Lake / Kerr Reservoir the Clarksville area was socked in with dense fog. That will clear away by mid-morning and the entire county will experience partly sunny skies and afternoon highs in the 60s.
The upcoming work week will then feature a split personality. The first half will continue the pleasant temperatures, with readings topping out at or near the 70 degree mark through Wednesday. Hump Day will also bring the chance for showers as the next storm system approaches from the west.
Then a strong autumn cold front will punch through the region Wednesday night. Gusty westerly/northwesterly winds will bring in much cooler air following the boundary. Temperatures will tumble to daily highs only in the mid-50s locally for Thursday into next weekend. This graphic illustrates that drop across the eastern half of the nation.
Wednesday afternoon forecast highs are shown on the left panel, while Thursday's maximum temperatures are on the right. The overall weather pattern looks to have shifted to a more typical autumn setup. The jet stream has finally dropped far enough south to end the recent warmth. There will still be occasional mild days ahead, but the chillier air out of Canada will continue to force the warm air to retreat southward for the winter.
