Saturday will bring the only chance of rain for a while

The weather has entered another dry pattern, with Saturday being the only day to feature chances of rain for the next week or more. Even so, the weekend will bring very nice early September conditions to Mecklenburg county.

As of this writing temperatures and dew points across the county are near or equal to each other. That's a recipe for fog, and South Hill is socked in while the western parts of the county are under brilliant blue skies as seen on this morning's visible satellite loop:

That overcast and fog will clear off later this morning as the temperatures warm and separate from the dew point readings.

Highs this afternoon will top out near the 80 degree mark accompanied by light northerly winds and clear skies. Then tonight clouds will roll in overhead as a low pressure system slides up the East Coast from its current location over northern Florida. That blanket of clouds will prop up temperatures, so lows on Saturday morning will only drop to the mid-60s.

As that low pressure center nears a few showers may pop up early tomorrow morning, but a better chance of light rain - and maybe a rumble of thunder - will arrive with a vigorous cold front Saturday afternoon.  Local rain gauges will only total up to a tenth of an inch given the dry air both ahead of and behind the front. Overall, tomorrow will turn out partly sunny with highs reaching the low 80s before that boundary arrives mid-afternoon.

Sunday then will bring more brilliant blue skies, with temperatures ranging from morning lows in the low 50s to afternoon highs in the low 70s. The Octoberish weather conditions look to stick around most of next week, with little chance of additional rain on the horizon.
