Filtered sunshine and fall-like conditions for midweek

High pressure is parked across New England, keeping the weather quiet around Mecklenburg county for the midweek period. Today's (Wednesday's) temperatures began in the mid-50s and will top out in the mid-70s this afternoon under partly sunny skies. The sunshine will filter through high clouds soaring across the area via the jet stream. Sunset today will occur at 7:38 p.m. as the daytime length grows shorter.

The vigorous cold front which crossed through Virginia over the Labor Day weekend is now well south and east of the area. The dry air behind that boundary has lowered humidity levels quite a bit. This graphic shows how much the dew points (true measure of humidity) have dropped since Tuesday morning:

Thursday's weather will resemble today's but under more cloud cover. An upper level disturbance will scoot by just south of the Virginia / North Carolina line but with only very slight chances of precipitation to be bothered about. Local thermometers will again register morning lows in the mid-50s and afternoon highs in the mid-70s.

The next chance of rain looks to be Friday night into Saturday. Friday's blogpost will take a closer look at that and the weekend weather.
