The "warm and stickies" return for the first half of the work week

Today - Monday - began with temperatures around Mecklenburg county hovering near the 60 degree mark. Those readings will climb into the upper 80s this afternoon, accompanied by dew points rising into the mid-60s as southwesterly breezes pump Gulf of Mexico moisture into the area. That's enough increase in humidity to be noticeable.

Skies will remain sunny with high pressure still in control of the local weather. By sunset temperatures will drop back to 80 degrees on their way to Tuesday morning lows in the upper 60s. (More moisture in the air retains more heat = warmer overnight temperatures.) Tomorrow will be sunny and downright hot, with afternoon highs reaching the low 90s.

Wednesday looks much the same but will be even hotter and stickier as that high pressure moves off the East Coast. That will be the warmest day of the work week with highs reaching the mid- to upper 90s ahead of an approaching cold front.
