Mostly sunny and less hot to begin the work week

This Monday morning began with temperatures in the upper 60s around Mecklenburg county. That's a sign of lower dew points and thus less humidity that folks have to deal with. That's good news, but even better news is that as the week progresses those morning lows will drop into the low and mid-60s.

A cold front which passed through the area this past weekend has stalled over North Carolina. It's far enough south of Mecklenburg county that today will be mostly sunny, but the boundary is still close enough that a couple of showers or thunderstorms could roll through this afternoon. Local thermometers will register highs in the mid-80s before dropping into the upper 70s by sunset at 8:09 p.m. this evening.

Tuesday will then begin with temperatures in the mid-60s. Skies will again be mostly sunny, but there will be another chance of showers and storms tomorrow afternoon as an upper air disturbance passes through the region. Highs tomorrow will top out in the low 80s accompanied by light northeasterly breezes.

Also, there is some attention being paid to the next tropical system in the Atlantic. Current thinking is for it to become a hurricane (it would be named "Ernesto") north of Puerto Rico, but the forecast track is well east of the U.S. mainland. Keep in mind that we are only just entering the busiest part of the Atlantic hurricane season, so expect the tropical activity to pick up over the next several weeks.
