August "Chamber of Commerce" Weekend Weather

It would be hard to find a better weather forecast for late August than what Mecklenburg county has in store for this weekend. A relatively cool and dry air mass will stick around thanks to high pressure parked across the eastern half of the nation. This - Friday - morning temperatures began the day in the mid-50s around the county and will top out only near 80 degrees this afternoon under sunny skies.

Both Saturday and Sunday will continue the trend of bright blue skies and pleasant conditions. The air will warm a bit each day, such that tomorrow will see highs in the low 80s while Sunday's readings will top out in the mid-80s. But morning lows for each weekend day will still drop into the 50s for pleasant sleeping weather.

This taste of autumn will come to a halt next week when that comfortable high pressure slides off the coast. Local thermometers will again see 90 degree afternoon highs as the winds swap around out of the south. Check out this comparison between today and next Wednesday as shown on these National Weather Service Heat Risk maps:

Notice the angry looking oranges and reds as they slide east from the central U.S. into Virginia. We're not done with summer weather yet!
