Drier and pleasant conditions for the weekend

A weak cold front swept across Mecklenburg county late Tuesday afternoon, followed by another - more vigorous - cold front during the wee hours last night. As a result today (Friday) humidity levels are dropping as drier air moves in from west and northwest. This graphic illustrates the change in dew point across the eastern U.S. from 7 a.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. this morning:

Skies will be sunny today as a westerly breeze brings in that drier air. Temperatures which began the morning near 70 degrees around the county will top out in the upper 80s this afternoon. After sunset today at 8:31 p.m. local thermometer readings will drop steadily thanks to clear skies and the drier air. Saturday morning lows will end up in the upper 50s for some comfortable sleeping weather.

Tomorrow will be a very nice day for outdoor activities. A light westerly breeze will continue as temperatures reach the mid-80s during the afternoon hours. Saturday night skies look to be partly cloudy, and local thermometers will register Sunday morning lows in the low 60s. The latter day of the weekend will then feature slowly increasing cloud cover with a high in the upper 80s ahead of another weak cold front. A few scattered showers will arrive after sunset Sunday.

Enjoy this weekend's weather!
