The work week begins sunny but rain is on the horizon

The incredible aurora displays of this past Friday night apparently weren't repeated the past couple of nights. There were a few reports of folks seeing colors here in Virginia Saturday and Sunday evenings using long exposure photography, but there have been nothing like the pictures from Friday's display.

Temperatures this Monday morning began the day at 54, 50, 49, and 46 degrees respectively at Clarksville, Chase City, Boydton, and South Hill. Clarksville was the warmest reading thanks to a light southeasterly breeze. The airport thermometer - at the red star - was affected by air (orange dashed line) that was warmed by crossing the lake waters:

Today will feature mostly sunny skies over Mecklenburg county with afternoon highs in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. Clouds will encroach overnight as a low pressure center located over Texas this morning moves eastward along the Gulf Coast states. Showers will begin to dampen the area during the wee hours of Tuesday morning.

Tomorrow will then be cloudy with rain and perhaps a thunderstorm or two, but nothing severe is expected. Temperatures will begin the day near 60 degrees and top out only near 70 during the afternoon. Rain amounts will total up to a half-inch in local gauges by sunset, with another half-inch possible Tuesday night.

Wednesday also looks to be cloudy and damp before that low pressure center finally moves off the coast and allows drier air into the area. Sunshine will return for Thursday.
