Quick midweek update

Today's (Wednesday's) weather post is a bit late and somewhat abbreviated. After a wet Tuesday today looks to be mostly cloudy with only a few showers impinging on Mecklenburg county. Any showers will be courtesy of an upper level low pressure system swirling over northeastern Kentucky, drawing moisture northward from the Gulf of Mexico. Afternoon temperatures today will top out in the low 70s.

The Storm Prediction Center has Southside Virginia under a Marginal Risk - level 1 of 5 - for severe weather today as shown here:

The main threats from this setup would be damaging winds and/or large hail. Per short range forecast models it appears that any severe storms today will likely miss Mecklenburg county, but it's always a good idea to remain weather aware.

By Thursday morning that upper level low will have moved off the coast, leaving behind a partly sunny and dry day. Temperatures will range from morning lows in the upper 50s to afternoon highs in the upper 70s. After sunset tomorrow a cold front dropping south through the area may touch off a few showers, but rain amounts would be paltry.

Happy Wednesday!
