That ol' May feeling returns

This Monday morning's dense fog around Mecklenburg county is thanks to (a) plenty of low level moisture left over from recent rains and (b) high pressure nosing down the East Coast, bringing in Atlantic moisture via northeasterly winds. The close match of temperatures (black numbers) and dew points (blue numbers) on this map is a good indication that fog is around:

A dense fog advisory was issued by the National Weather Service early this morning, lasting through 9:00 a.m. The murkiness will begin to mix out - not "burn off" - after that, with sunny skies holding sway for the rest of today. Afternoon highs will top out in the upper 70s, just about average for May 20th.

Tonight skies will remain clear and temperatures will again drop to near the dew point in many spots. Thus fog will be likely Tuesday morning as well, so folks out on the roads during the early morning hours should be alert. Other than that skies tomorrow looks to be mostly clear again as local thermometers top the 80 degree mark.

As the work week progresses daily highs in the 80s will hold fast. Showers and storms will return during the latter half of the week as a cold front approaches from the west. Until then enjoy the sunshine and comfortable humidity.
