This Friday morning Mecklenburg county thermometers recorded lows in the upper 20s, a few degrees below the average low of 32 degrees for March 1st. This afternoon's high temperature is forecast to be in the mid-50s, again slightly below the average (58 degrees) for this date. By month's end those averages will rise to daily highs and lows of 67 and 41 degrees respectively. March is definitely a weather transition period, and the weather community thus labels this month the beginning of meteorological spring.
This morning's sunny skies will begin to cloud over by the lunch hour. A storm system developing over the Florida panhandle will trek up the East Coast later today. As a result rain looks to enter the local picture this afternoon and last through mid-morning Saturday. This NWS Wakefield forecast graphic indicates that Mecklenburg county gauges are expected to collect 0.5 - 1.0 inch of liquid by the time all is said and done:
Saturday will start wet and cloudy with showers tapering off by noon. Skies will remain mostly cloudy tomorrow, but the sun may peek through before it sets at 6:09 pm. Afternoon temperatures will rise into the low 60s as no truly cold air is in sight for the time being. Meanwhile, Sunday appears to be the better weekend day for outdoor activities, with partly sunny skies and afternoon highs in the mid-60s after morning lows in the mid-40s.
Happy Friday!
