The subtropical jet stream continues to foster a storm track which keeps Mecklenburg county in its sights. This Sunday morning will be mostly cloudy as remnant moisture from yesterday's low pressure system slowly moves out of the area. The afternoon will then feature breaks in the cloud cover as temperatures climb into the mid-60s.
However, more clouds will fill in tonight as the next in a series of low pressure centers marches up the East Coast. This seven day precipitation forecast graphic illustrates the two main storm tracks which will keep local weather active this week:
Much of this week looks to bring warm temperatures along with clouds and showers. The good news is that no severe weather is expected. On that note this week is Severe Weather Awareness Week here in Virginia, beginning Monday with a discussion of what Watches and Warnings mean. Each day will deal with a different aspect of severe weather, with graphics and videos available to describe how to understand the threat and how to minimize personal risk.
One part of this Awareness Week that everyone can take part in is Thursday's statewide Tornado Drill at 9:45 a.m. This form is for individuals, businesses, and schools to register their participation. Folks who participate are encouraged to share a photo of their safe place on social media with the tag #ShowYourShelter. Sign up for this important exercise while the weather is benign!
