Sunshine and warmth for Easter weekend

Rain totals from the latest storm system to cross Mecklenburg county ranged from 1.17 inches at South Hill to 1.72 inches in Chase City. But today - Friday - clouds have parted, precipitation has stopped, and the winds are breezy. Temperatures to end the work week will rise from this morning's lows in the mid-30s to afternoon maxima in the mid-60s.

Westerly winds will gust over 25 mph at times today thanks to an upper level short wave disturbance crossing Virginia. However, by sunset at 7:34 p.m. those winds will settle down nicely. Tonight's skies will remain clear as local thermometers drop into the mid-40s. Saturday then looks to be a glorious early spring day, with light southwesterly breezes and temperatures which will climb into the low 70s under clear skies.

Easter Sunday will begin with continued clear skies. Outdoor sunrise service participants will be treated to mild temperatures in the low 50s. By Sunday afternoon thermometers will climb into the upper 70s, with a couple perhaps touching the 80 degree mark(!). There is some uncertainty as to shower chances late in the day, but should any rain materialize it would be both scattered and light.

Although no severe weather is expected this weekend that season is fast approaching. Thus, here's an Easter egg reminder to have more than one way to receive weather warnings:
