A warm front pushed northward through Mecklenburg county last night. Thus this - Wednesday - morning's low temperatures only dropped to the low 40s, a far cry from last week's Arctic chill. The current weather pattern change warmed the eastern half of the nation over the past 24 hours per this graphic:
Moister air ushered in behind the warm front brought clouds with it. Overcast skies will stick around for several days, with only a few peeks of the sun breaking through between today and Sunday. The good news is that temperatures will be warmer than average during this period, with this afternoon's high climbing into the mid-60s.
There is a slight chance of scattered showers today, but widespread rainfall isn't expected until after dark tonight. Even so local rain gauges will only collect perhaps a tenth of an inch by Thursday morning. Tomorrow will begin with temperatures in the mid-50s before soaring to the low 70s(!) during the afternoon. Rain will become more likely Thursday and Thursday night, with totals up to a quarter-inch across the county.
Friday also looks to be very warm and wet, with the possibility of a rumble of thunder as a cold front crosses the state. The weekend will be damp and somewhat cooler, but temperatures will remain above late January averages as another storm system approaches from the southwest. Friday's blogpost will have more details on the weekend weather. Meanwhile, enjoy the warmth!
