Muggy? In January? Yes, today - Friday - will bring that sticky feeling into Mecklenburg county for a brief visit. Dew points this morning are in the mid-60s, a rather humid value at any time of year, and will be accompanied by southwesterly breezes and afternoon temperatures in the 70s! This is all ahead of a cold front which will push through the area just after the dinner hour.
Partly sunny skies will help today's warmup. And after this early morning's sprinkles there will be additional chances of scattered showers as that boundary comes through after sunset. The air mass behind the cold front isn't really very cold, and the front itself looks to stall over the Carolinas tonight.
Saturday then looks to start with sunshine before clouds build back in ahead of the next storm system, which will form along that stalled front. Temperatures tomorrow will top out around 60 degrees as winds swap around out of the east. Rain will reenter the local picture Saturday afternoon, with up to an inch and a half by the time all is said and done on Sunday as this NWS Wakefield graphic illustrates:
The good news is that the recent precipitation has almost eliminated last year's drought situation across the Old Dominion. Check out the latest Drought Monitor:
Sunday will begin wet and cloudy before this next storm system pushes off the East Coast. Some sunshine is likely late that afternoon, with temperatures topping out in the mid-50s with a northwest wind. That will set the stage for a mostly dry and seasonable work week...but more on that in Sunday's blogpost.
