Mild weather for the midweek

A short wave trough in the upper atmosphere created light showers overnight, with rain totaling less than a tenth of an inch in Mecklenburg County gauges. This Wednesday morning began with cloudy skies and temperatures in the upper 40s. Those skies will clear out as the day wears on, and temperatures will top out in the upper 60s for afternoon highs.

A southwesterly breeze this morning will swap around out of the northeast later today. The latter direction will usher in cooler air and clouds, so expect tonight to be cloudy with local thermometers registering in the low 40s by sunrise Thursday. Tomorrow will then feature cooler conditions, with afternoon highs in the upper 50s being several degrees below average for mid-November.

Despite more light showers expected Friday into Saturday morning the increasingly arid conditions won't improve much. The dry trend is illustrated by dropping water levels on Buggs Island Lake / Kerr Reservoir:

Hopefully the transition into winter will eventually bring more precipitation to alleviate the growing drought. Fingers crossed!
