Raw conditions Sunday before improvement for the week

"Raw" is a good descriptor for today's (Sunday's) conditions. Overcast skies, occasional showers, northerly winds gusting up to 25 mph, and temperatures hovering in the 60s all add up to a not-so-nice weather day. The blame can be laid at the feet of the nor'easter whose center is swirling around just off the South Carolina / North Carolina coast:

That surface low pressure will sweep northward and merge with another low center that will develop off the Delmarva peninsula tonight. The overall combination will keep gusty winds and clouds around today, but precipitation totals will be skimpy. Local rain gauges will add only another tenth to a quarter-inch of liquid on top of the light amounts registered as of this morning.

Monday - Columbus Day - will be dry but the clouds will stick around, holding temperatures down a bit. Afternoon highs will top out at or near 70ยบ, accompanied by continued gusty north winds. The middle of the work week then looks to be sunny and warmer ahead of another cold front. That boundary won't bring rain, but the Canadian air behind it will cool things off again for the end of the week.
