A slow moving cold front edged its way through Mecklenburg County before dawn this Sunday morning. The clouds and rain associated with it will hang around much of today, with perhaps some sunshine peeking through late this afternoon. Temperatures today will struggle to reach the 70º mark at most sites, a good fifteen degrees below the early September average.
That boundary will eventually push far enough southeast to allow drier air and clear skies to take over. The upcoming work week will thus feature another extended stretch of autumn-like weather. Daily highs in the mid- to upper 70s will follow morning lows roughly twenty degrees cooler than that for the first half of the week. Local thermometers could touch the 80º mark Thursday and Friday, but dew points - and thus humidity - will remain in the comfortable range.
Meanwhile we're just about at the peak of the Atlantic basin hurricane season:
So, what do the tropics look like at the moment?
