Foggy mornings will lead to glorious afternoon conditions

This - Friday - morning's fog around the region can be attributed to (a) clear skies overnight allowing yesterday's warmth to radiate back into space, (b) humid air across the Piedmont, and (c) calm winds. Thus, low temperatures across Mecklenburg County matched local dew points and morning fog was the result.

But that's the only blemish in the forecast. This early taste of autumn weather looks to continue through the weekend and well into the rest of the month. Temperatures this afternoon will top out in the low 80s, right around the average for mid-September. Sunshine will prevail and a northeasterly breeze will stir the air for a comfortable end to the work week.

Saturday's conditions will closely resemble today's, with another possible round of morning fog giving way to bright sunshine and afternoon highs right at the 80ยบ mark. Drier air will work its way into the county tomorrow, so that Sunday will not likely feature another foggy start to the morning. The latter weekend day will be mostly sunny with temperatures topping out in the low 80s.

This awesome weather pattern is highly desirable from many standpoints, but one drawback is increasingly dry conditions. The current Virginia Drought Monitor indicates this:

At the moment Mecklenburg County hasn't been placed under the "Abnormally Dry" designation, but the trend is there. And no significant precipitation is in sight for the next week or so.

Happy Friday!
