This Monday morning began under clear skies with light winds and dry air in place. That's a recipe for cool morning temperatures under the high pressure system currently in control of local conditions. Chase City won the prize with a low of 49º, while a light north breeze across the 60+ degree waters of Buggs Island Lake / Kerr Reservoir kept Clarksville's readings a bit warmer at 54º. Average Mecklenburg County minimum temperatures in early June are in the low 60s, so it's a bit cooler than normal.
Bright sunshine will warm local sites into the upper 70s this afternoon, still a few degrees below average highs in the low 80s. Skies today will be bluer than Sunday's since the upper air smoke from the Canadian wildfires has moved south of the state line for a time:
However, that upper air milkiness will likely return over the next few days as massive fires continue to rage across the Canadian prairies.
