Mid-April temperatures in Mecklenburg County range from morning lows in the mid-40s to afternoon highs in the low 70s. But those thirty year averages don't reflect typical springtime variations such as this week will bring. Today - Palm Sunday - began with many county thermometers dipping into the upper 30s, with forecast highs anticipated to be in the mid-60s.
However, full sunshine and light northerly winds will counterbalance today's cool temperatures, making for pleasant outdoor conditions. Tonight's thermometer readings will then drop into the mid-40s ahead of a significant warmup for Monday. Tomorrow afternoon's maximum looks to boost up to the 80ยบ mark, with southwesterly winds ushering in the warmer air.
The next weather system crossing the nation will drag a cold front across the region Tuesday, bringing clouds and a chance of light showers during the first half of the day. Behind this boundary lurks another burst of cooler air which will arrive via gusty northwesterly winds. Temperatures will then be below average until the end of the work week.
And a word of caution for those who intend to boat or fish the waters of Buggs Island Lake / Kerr Reservoir. Water temperatures are still quite chilly as shown on this graph:
