Brief look at the weekend weather

As promised in Wednesday's blogpost today's (Friday's) entry is later than usual. High temperatures around Mecklenburg county today hovered around the 60ยบ mark at most sites. Gusty southwesterly winds are keeping the air stirred ahead of the next cold front. That dry boundary is due through the area Saturday afternoon as shown on this Weather Prediction Center graphic:

Tomorrow will feature continued sunshine, with afternoon highs in the mid- to upper 60s before the colder air following the front moves in. Winds tomorrow will shift around out of the west during mid-afternoon, gusting over 25 mph at times. By Sunday morning - the first day of March! - the cooler air will have settled in, so local thermometers will begin the day in the upper 20s. Highs that afternoon will top out in the mid-40s, almost ten degrees below the average despite bright sunshine.

A heads up for next Wednesday: we could be looking at the first widespread severe weather event of the year. Nothing is set in stone yet, but stay tuned to local weather sources (and this blog!!) for updates and details as the day approaches.
