The storm which affected the entire state Friday night into Saturday left behind enough snow to shovel and build snowmen. Mecklenburg county (indicated by the black arrow) saw 3-4" of the white stuff:
The upcoming work week looks to be dry, punctuated by a chilly Arctic blast midweek.Meanwhile, today - Sunday - began on the cold side, with thermometers registering lows ranging from 17º at Chase City to 21º at Boydton. High pressure sprawled across the eastern U.S. will provide plentiful sunshine and light winds today. Temperatures will top out at or just below the 40º mark, which is ten degrees below the mid-January averages.
Monday will again start with lows around 20 under clear skies. Local thermometers will climb to afternoon highs in the mid-40s, still below average but it will be a brief respite from the much colder regime of late. However, that will change after a dry cold front passage tomorrow evening.
Tuesday through Thursday will feature another shot of Arctic air, with daily highs in the mid-30s to around 40 accompanied by bone dry conditions. Friday's weather look to be similar to tomorrow's, with sunshine and temperatures climbing into the upper 40s.
Then yet another storm arrives on Saturday. At the moment precipitation from this next system appears to be mainly rain, but it could bring some wintry stuff next Sunday. It's too early to provide a responsible forecast this far ahead of time. Suffice it to say it would be wise to keep an eye on the forecast for next weekend as changes are possible.
