High pressure centered over New England today - Monday - will bring surface winds out of the east across Mecklenburg county. That will usher in both moisture and cool air from off the Atlantic waters. Thus skies will remain mostly cloudy today with afternoon highs in the mid-60s after morning temperatures in the 40s.
By tomorrow that same high pressure will have moved south and east, allowing local winds to swap around out of the south. With higher moisture totals in place Tuesday morning may feature patchy fog, so drivers should be alert to that potential. A warmup will then commence, with Tuesday afternoon temperatures climbing back into the mid-70s under mostly sunny skies.
A peek at the National Hurricane Center website shows yet another tropical system taking shape in the Caribbean and heading into the still warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
This storm will likely receive the name "Rafael". The moisture associated with its remnants may influence local weather this coming weekend, but that remains to be seen. (Note that the official end to the Atlantic basin hurricane season is November 30th.) Stay tuned to this blog and local forecasts for updates.
