Cold front(s) on the way

As of this writing Mecklenburg county rain gauges have received 0.23", 0.09", 0.30", and 0.40" at Clarksville, Chase City, Boydton, and South Hill respectively since Sunday morning. A few more showers are on their way this Monday morning as a small upper air disturbance approaches from the west. The rain looks to clear out after the lunch hour and sunshine will return.

The first of two cold fronts is currently over the Virginia / West Virginia border and will pass through later this afternoon. Behind this boundary winds will swap around out of the west and temperatures will climb into the mid-70s while the colder air remains over the Ohio valley. This forecast graphic shows Mecklenburg county (at the black star) between the two fronts at 7 o'clock this evening:

After midnight the second cold front will arrive, bringing that cooler and drier air with it. Tuesday will then dawn sunny with morning lows in the upper 40s while afternoon temperatures will top out in the low 60s. A northerly breeze will help make tomorrow feel like a true autumn day around the area.

Under clear skies and light winds the dry air in place will set the stage for frost around the county by dawn Wednesday. Sensitive vegetation may need to be protected Tuesday night to continue hanging on.

Oh, and thanks to all the current and former military folks on this Veterans' Day!
