Today - Sunday - will bring a final taste of above average October temperatures for Mecklenburg county. High temperatures average in the low 70s at this point in the month, but today's maximum will rise into the low 80s. Then by Monday morning (Columbus Day) a cold front will cross the region and - ding! ding! - autumn will arrive.
A southwesterly breeze of 5-10 mph will stir the air today, while dew points in the low to mid-50s will keep the above average heat feeling comfortable. Tonight that breeze will continue ahead of the aforementioned cold front, which is draped across the Midwestern states as this post is penned. Temperatures will start out Monday near 60 degrees before the front passes through the county and swaps those breezes around out of the west.
Highs tomorrow will climb to the low 70s around the county, but the rest of the work week looks to feature below average readings. Thermometer readings topping out in the upper 50s to the mid-60s will be the rule, with no rain expected locally into next weekend as shown on this graphic:
A peek at the National Hurricane Center seven day outlook shows relatively quiet conditions across the Atlantic and Caribbean basins, so no tropical trouble is expected anytime soon. The eastern U.S. has seen enough of that lately!!
