This Monday morning began with temperatures in the upper 30s and low 40s around Mecklenburg county. The combination of chilly air hovering over temperatures in the upper 60s in the Buggs Island Lake / Kerr Reservoir waters created localized fog, which is dissipating as this blog is written. Some colder locales may have seen scattered frost this morning.
Sunny skies and light winds will boost local thermometer readings into the mid-60s this afternoon, a couple degrees below average for the last Monday of the month. Dew points in the 40s will keep the outdoors feeling dry, while folks who have turned on their furnace are noticing very dry air indoors as well. It is definitely static electricity and moisturizing lotion season!
Tuesday will dawn with temperatures in the low 40s, with some clouds tonight keeping part of today's heat from radiating into space. Tomorrow will then turn out mostly sunny with afternoon highs topping out in the low 70s. The warming trend continues Wednesday, which will be several degrees warmer than tomorrow.
Keep in mind that this is the last week of Daylight Saving (no "s") Time. The official switch back to Standard Time occurs at 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning, which will then become 1:00 a.m. That will refund the hour we lost in the "spring forward" to DST back in March. Many electronic clocks will accomplish this switch automatically, but those with timepieces not connected to the internet may need the information in this tongue-in-cheek graphic:
Happy Monday!
