Cloudy skies to begin the weekend, but mostly dry conditions continue

A strong high pressure center (blue "H" below) remains parked over New England this Friday morning. That slow moving feature is acting as a barrier to keep showers mostly south of Mecklenburg county today:
Rain over northern North Carolina is pushing against that barrier this morning, so there is a chance of light scattered showers locally today. But for the most part Friday will just feature cloudy skies with a northeasterly breeze and afternoon highs near 80 degrees.

Saturday will look much the same as today but with little or no chance of rain. Skies look to be mostly cloudy again, but there will likely be some peeks of sunshine at times during the afternoon. Sunday will be less cloudy and still dry. Both weekend days will feature morning lows in the mid-60s and afternoon highs in the low 80s, pretty much average readings at this point in September.

With the latest Drought Monitor showing Mecklenburg county under Abnormally Dry conditions again it would be good to get some decent rainfall. That could well arrive early next week as a low pressure system develops just off the Carolina coast. Models still disagree somewhat on when and how much rain that could result in, so stay tuned for updates.
