Triple digit heat to begin the work week

Today - Monday - began with thermometers readings in the low to mid-70s around Mecklenburg county. Those numbers look to approach or even exceed triple digits both today and tomorrow. The only thing that might keep today's readings slightly under that mark is an area of clouds from a decaying mesoscale convective system drifting across the county (at the white star) this morning:

Given the expected heat and humidity the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory beginning at 10 o'clock this morning. It won't cool off much tonight either. Tuesday will begin with temperatures only dipping into the mid-70s before climbing to 100 degrees or even higher tomorrow afternoon. Folks should expect another Heat Advisory to be issued tomorrow. There is a forecast chance of showers and storms late Tuesday but those look to be few and far between.

A better chance of precipitation will arrive on Wednesday ahead of the next "cold" front. Even so, Mecklenburg county thermometers still look to top out in the mid-90s that afternoon. But behind that boundary lies several days of wetter and cloudier conditions as the 90s take a hike for a while. More on that in Wednesday's blogpost.
