The "stickies" for Monday but it'll feel worse on Tuesday

A stalled out "cold" front nearby kept clouds around Mecklenburg Sunday, holding down temperatures and creating showers around the county. Clarksville won the rainfall prize with a total of 0.35" recorded at the local airstrip. Today - Monday - that boundary will creep back north and west as an upper level trough approaches the Ohio valley.

As a result both heat and humidity will increase today, with afternoon thermometer readings topping out at or near 90 degrees under partly sunny skies. Dew points have already crept into the mid-70s for that very sticky feeling which is common this time of the summer. The proximity of that dissipating boundary could result in showers and storms this afternoon, but they look to be widely scattered.

Overnight temperatures will only sag into the mid-70s by dawn on Tuesday. Tomorrow will then feature more sunshine and hotter conditions, with afternoon highs in the mid-90s. Adding in the high dew points will cause the heat index to climb into the triple digits as indicated by the circled value on this table:

Thus Tuesday will likely feature another Heat Advisory issued by the National Weather Service. Again, a few widely scattered showers and storms are possible around the county tomorrow afternoon, but don't count on them to lower the stickiness factor. Wednesday looks like a "rinse and repeat" weather day, so yet another Heat Advisory could be applied for Hump Day.

The good news is that more abundant rainfall and somewhat cooler conditions are on the way for the latter part of the work week. More on that in Wednesday's blogpost.
