More beautiful weather ahead, but will it be interrupted this weekend by rain from a hurricane?

As this is being written Wednesday morning fog is slowly dissipating across Buggs Island Lake / Kerr Reservoir. Temperatures bottomed out in the low to mid-40s by sunrise. A combination of dry air and plentiful October sunshine will boost those readings to near the 80ยบ mark this afternoon.

Tonight, local thermometers won't drop as far given southerly wind flow ahead of the next cold front. This boundary will push across the region early Thursday, bringing more cool and dry air with it (but no rain). Tomorrow afternoon's temperatures will top out in the low 80s under clear skies, accompanied by a northwesterly breeze.

Then, after another sunny day Friday the weekend forecast looks a bit complicated. Tropical Storm Isaias has formed just north of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. It is forecast to swing northward as shown below, strengthening to a hurricane tonight. This will be the first hurricane of the 2026 Atlantic / Gulf hurricane season.

The main impacts of this system on Mecklenburg County will be rain that will arrive during the wee hours of Sunday morning. How much liquid local gauges will collect is still TBD, but Sunday looks like a very wet day.
