A frigid start to the work week, with wintry weather coming this weekend?

Martin Luther King Jr. Day began on a chilly note, with temperatures across Mecklenburg County dipping into the low 20s. Clear skies, just over 10 hours of sunshine, and southwesterly winds will all help boost this afternoon's highs into the mid-40s. However, with another cold front passing through this evening even colder air is on the way.

Tuesday morning temperatures will thus likely be a couple degrees lower than Monday's readings. Under the influence of this next cold air mass folks should expect afternoon highs only in the mid-30s tomorrow. A westerly breeze will provide a wind chill factor, making it feel 5-10 degrees cooler than thermometer readings. Bundle up!

There's already a buzz about a potential winter storm this coming weekend. Cold air and moisture both appear to be plentiful, but folks should remember that this far ahead the details can't be determined with any confidence (despite social media hoopla). There could be snow, ice, rain, or any combination of the three for Mecklenburg County. Keep the following graphic in mind and stay tuned to forecasts.
