A vigorous cold front pressed across Mecklenburg County between 6:30 and 7:00 this Friday morning. Ahead of the boundary 24 hour rain totals were 0.28", 0.35", 0.45" respectively at Clarksville, Chase City, and Boydton. South Hill won the jackpot with 1.19" thanks to a strengthening convective line that is east of I-95 as this post is penned. The rest of today will be dry under mostly sunny skies.
Westerly winds of 15-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph will stir things up Friday as a strong upper level trough swings through on its way off the East Coast. Today's high temperatures in the low 60s actually occurred just after midnight. Local thermometer readings will slowly fall all day, and by sunset (at 5:01 p.m. in Clarksville) temperatures will be in the upper 40s.
Overnight lows will bottom out near 30ยบ early Saturday as winds calm down overnight. Tomorrow will then have clear skies with afternoon temperatures topping out in the low 50s. Winds will turn around out of the south Saturday night ahead of yet another cold front. That dry boundary will push through Sunday morning, bringing somewhat cooler air for Monday. Meanwhile Sunday will turn out mostly sunny with highs in the mid-50s.
A peek ahead at Christmas week temperatures shows a definitely warmer regime for most of the nation:
Locally, Christmas Day could feature a high in the 60s!
