The weather pattern has shifted to a cooler regime across Virginia, just in time for the official end of the Atlantic hurricane season today (Nov. 30th) and the beginning of meteorological winter tomorrow. Today - Sunday - is no exception, being a bit cooler than expected than forecasted a few days ago. Afternoon temperatures around Mecklenburg County will top out only in the upper 40s under cloudy skies.
Light rain showers will move into the area after lunch. Most local gauges will record less than a tenth of an inch of liquid from these showers, which will break out ahead of an approaching cold front. That boundary will push across the county between 9 and 10 p.m. this evening, ushering in more cool air behind it. Temperatures will sag to near 30ยบ by dawn Monday before rising into the upper 40s under sunny skies tomorrow afternoon.
More rain will arrive Tuesday and again on Friday as multiple storm systems form and sweep eastward across the nation. Temperatures this week will remain below the early December average of upper 50s for highs and low 30s for morning minimums. This seven day precipitation forecast map illustrates the general storm track, which stretches across the Gulf Coast states northeastward toward the Outer Banks:
