A sunny beginning to the week, but then...?

The work week's weather will start out sunny and very pleasant. Today's (Monday's) skies will be mostly sunny as temperatures top out in the lower 80s, accompanied by a northeasterly breeze. By sunset at 8:17 p.m. those readings will drop into the mid-70s on their way to an overnight low once again in the low 60s.

Tuesday will then begin under partly sunny skies, with tomorrow's high touching the 80ยบ mark on local thermometers. The weather picture then becomes a bit uncertain as moisture pushes back into the region. That moisture will be associated with continued cold air damming (CAD) plus a developing low pressure center off the Southeastern U.S. coast.

Here's the forecast surface map at 8 p.m. Tuesday showing the cool surface air (blue arrow) from the CAD being pushed south along the Piedmont by high pressure up over eastern Canada:

Several numerical forecast models show rain arriving after the lunch hour tomorrow, while others hold that precipitation off until Tuesday night. Even so, the remainder of the work week will feature chances of showers and storms each day.
