The heat wave continues!

Today - Monday - looks to be very slightly cooler thanks to Sunday evening's storms, which "overturned" (i.e. mixed out) the lower atmosphere. Precipitation totals across Mecklenburg County varied widely, from 0.03" in Clarksville to 0.38" in Chase City. This lightning map indicates where the storms tracked:

Temperatures today will top out in the lower 90s, accompanied by dew points in the mid-70s. The NWS Wakefield office has continued a Heat Advisory until 8:00 o'clock this evening, so folks still need to remain mindful of staying hydrated and taking frequent breaks to cool off. Shower and storm coverage today will be less widespread than on Sunday.

After Tuesday morning lows in the mid-70s the afternoon hours will feature temperatures climbing back into the mid-90s, albeit with slightly lower dew points. The lower humidity level may keep tomorrow's conditions below the Heat Advisory threshold, but the air will still feel sticky by any definition.  Few - if any - showers or storms will be around to wet the ground or provide cooling breezes on Tuesday.

The heat-breaking cavalry is on the way in the form of a strong cold front due into the region on Thursday. Until then, keep the heat cautions in mind.
