Tuesday's flooding in South Hill was an example of what can happen under this stagnant weather pattern. High humidity levels and sunshine combine to produce daily thunderstorms, which then creep very slowly along and flood localized areas. Frequent lightning and strong outflow winds also result.
A peek at the NWS Wakefield forecast page shows the same conditions pretty much every day through the upcoming weekend. To add insult to injury the longer term isn't any different. Here's a look at the national 6-10 day outlook for both temperature and precipitation:
